Known for playing for Sporting Kansas City, Felipe Hernández will return to play in the MLS after being suspended for having placed sports bets in two games of the competition. The information was revealed by Major League Soccer, which authorized the player's return to the fields, despite having violated the rules of integrity and conduct of the North American football championship.

The MLS authorization was due to a request to grant the player's return to MLS Commissioner Don Garber. Peter Vermes, current sporting director of Sporting Kansas City, commented that the reinstatement of Hernández could be a new opportunity for the athlete. Therefore, Vermes stressed that the club will provide all the support necessary for the player to hold on to this new chance to play in the competition again.

"This is an opportunity for him. It's a second chance. He has to be smart for it and I think he will be. We're giving him all the assistance he needs."

In addition, Vermes added in his speech that Hernández needs to get back to the way he was last year, before he was caught playing sports betting. That being said, Hernández still has an entire pre-season to work on his form and get back on track to join the club again.

"As a player, he needs to get back to the way he left us last year, because he was in great shape, putting on his best football. So he has the pre-season to work on that and try to get his place on the team like everyone else. ".

THE CASE

The case involving Felipe Hernández happened last season in Major League Soccer. In 2021, the Sporting Kansas City player had placed two bets on two MLS games. Therefore, an independent investigation was carried out, which ended up raising the player's data, reaching the irregular action of Hernández.

After that, the player ended up being suspended from the championship. Hernández confessed to the club that he was experiencing problems related to sports betting. However, it was not confirmed that the player would have bet on his own club.

Sports betting in the United States

The year 2021 brought big revenues with sports betting in the United States. For example, it was recently revealed that the state of Nevada had raised $13.4 billion from gaming revenue in the year 2021.

The month of December 2021 alone resulted in a sum of $1.15 billion in gaming revenue. And, through these numbers, the month of December was of extreme importance for the revenue from online games in Nevada to have ended with US$ 13.4 billion raised.

Another big state that stood out in the course of 2021 was Michigan. According to the figures revealed, the state had raised a total of $4 billion from the sports betting market. Therefore, the state of Michigan managed to establish itself as one of the states that most profited from the sport in the period of 2021.

In analysis, the state of Michigan collected, from gross revenue from the games alone, an amount of US$ 1 billion. Eric Ramsey, the PlayUSA analyst, revealed that despite many doubts as to whether Michigan would make a good buck from sports betting, the state has proven itself to be quite solid in the market.

Few thought Michigan would hit $1 billion in revenue in the first year, especially considering that no state has ever reached that level before. Doing this in the first year was impressive, creating a significant stream of state tax revenue along the way.
