The MLS authorization was due to a request to grant the player's return to MLS Commissioner Don Garber. Peter Vermes, current sporting director of Sporting Kansas City, commented that the reinstatement of Hernández could be a new opportunity for the athlete. Therefore, Vermes stressed that the club will provide all the support necessary for the player to hold on to this new chance to play in the competition again.

"As a player, he needs to get back to the way he left us last year, because he was in great shape, putting on his best football. So he has the pre-season to work on that and try to get his place on the team like everyone else. ".

The case involving Felipe Hernández happened last season in Major League Soccer. In 2021, the Sporting Kansas City player had placed two bets on two MLS games.
