This Wednesday, in a meeting by videoconference, the Italian League presented a proposal for the Italian championship to return on June 13th. As such, it would still be possible to conclude the Italian Cup. It is worth mentioning that the decision to return to the competition depends on the Government's approval.
Serie A has been suspended since March 9, due to Covid-19. There are still 12 rounds left to finish the competition. In addition, the championship still has four delayed games: Inter Milan vs Sampdoria; Atalanta x Sassuolo; Verona x Cagliari and Torino x Parma.
The Italian League stressed that it will only return with the championship if all procedures are in accordance with the medical protocols stipulated by the government. Doctor Nanni, Bologna's doctor, was chosen to demonstrate the requests for the Italian Serie A at the Scientific Medical Commission of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
Vincenzo Spadafora, Italy's sports minister, said on Wednesday that football will only return if it is safe for everyone.
"If the championship comes back, as we all want, it will be because we made that decision after a series of thoughtful actions and protocols with security for everyone. At the supermarket you can keep your distance and use protection. Football is by nature a sport in which you cannot keep your distance. The players have to run, score, hit the area" - commented the minister.
